Within the Collaborative Programs, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) worked with combined delegations including University of Washington and Medical Education Exchange Teams (MEET), U.S.A. The delegation carried out Pediatrics Charity Surgery Program for children from Mekong delta and Educational Exchange for CTUMP’s lecturers and students from 23 to 28 October 2016.

Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP), represented by Rector Board of CTUMP; Director Board of CTUMP’s Hospital, concerning faculties and departments consisting of Faculty of Medicine (10 departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Rahabilitation, Family Medicine, Imaging Diagnosis, ENT, Psychiatry); Faculties of Public Health, Dentistry, Nursing and Medical technology, Basic Sciences and some departments of CTUMP’s Hospital have welcomed and worked with the delegations during the week.

The combined delegations including 64 members represented by professors Helen Sikov and Rob Gertler (MEET delegation); Prof. Richard Veith (University of Washington); Dr. Neena Seth and Dr Lance Tooke (Sub-group of Pediatric Surgery Delegation). There were 42 volunteers in the Pediatric Surgery Sub-group of cleft, hand, urology and general surgery; anesthetists, pediatric doctors, nurses, interpreters and IT staffs; and 22 professors, doctors and experts in 10 different educational exchange sub-groups.

Working activities and outcomes:

The delegation did surgeries on totally 52 cases, consisting of dent maxillofacial (16 cases), hand surgery (13 cases), urology and general surgery (23 cases).

In addition, the educational exchange, clinical practice and collaborative research proposal development between CTUMP, MEET and University of Washington delegations were successfully done in various fields of rheumatology, pediatrics, family medicine, imaging diagnosis, ENT, psychiatry; public health, dentistry, rehabilitation, nursing care and medical language teaching.

Also, several meetings were held to discuss about future collaboration in the fields of quality control and patient safety, pharmacy; traditional medicine, medical education …
