On May 11, 2026, a delegation from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP), led by Prof.Dr. Nguyen Trung Kien – Rector, along with representatives from various faculties and units of the University, visited and held discussions on cooperation at the Karolinska Institute (KI) in Stockholm, Sweden – one of the world's leading medical training and research institutions, and where the annual Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine is awarded. Assoc. Professor Dr. Kristiina Tammimies – Senior Lecturer, KIND Research group leader, and Director of the Doctoral Education at the Department of Women's and Children's Health, Karolinska Institute, chaired the meeting.

On the Karolinska Institute side, the meeting was also attended by leading experts from various faculties and research fields, including:
(1) Prof. Tobias Alfvén – Professor in Pediatrics, Vice-Dean of Doctoral Education, Senior Consultant in Pediatrics at Sachs Children's and Youth Hospital, Stockholm South Hospital, Department of Global Public Health;
(2) Prof. Eric Herlenius – Professor in Pediatrics, Senior Consultant in Pediatrics at Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital, Chair Research, Development and Education for Pediatric Emergency and Infectious Diseases, Karolinska University Hospital, Head Clinical Pediatrics at Dept KBH , KI and Head, AIM – Artificial Intelligence in Medicine - implementation for medical students, KI, Department of Women's and Children's Health;
(3) Assoc.Prof. Edmund Loh – Prof. in Infectious Diseases, Director of Studies of the National Doctoral Program in Infection and Antibiotics (NDPIA), Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology;
(4) Assoc.Prof. Sara Hägg – Professor in Molecular Epidemiology, expert in Aging, Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics;
(5) Assoc.Prof. Eva Elvin – Senior Lecturer, Director of Undergraduate and Advanced Education (GUA) at the Department of Women's and Children's Health.
At the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kristiina Tammimies presented an overview of the Karolinska Institute and KIND's research orientation. The KI professors successively introduced the unit's expertise and research orientation, including the fields of pediatric health and global public health; pediatric emergency and infectious diseases; application of artificial intelligence in medical training; antibiotic resistance and doctoral training program in infectious diseases; Molecular epidemiology and aging biology; as well as undergraduate and postgraduate medical training. The subsequent discussion was lively, focusing on the potential for interdisciplinary collaboration between the two sides.

Prof. Eric Herlenius presented on the integration of large-scale molecular biology data and routine clinical patient data (Clinicomics).
The two sides discussed and identified several potential areas of cooperation, including: research on child health and public health using a global approach; cooperation in infectious diseases and antibiotic resistance; application of artificial intelligence in medical training and clinical support; research on molecular epidemiology and aging in the context of the Vietnamese population; exchange of lecturers, researchers, and students; and guest lecturing by experts. as well as coordinating the implementation of joint research projects and participating in international cooperation programs such as ERASMUS+ and bilateral funding programs between the Nordic countries and Vietnam.
On this occasion, the delegation is guided a tour around the Karolinska Institute campus, the Biomedicum building – a state-of-the-art biomedical research facility in Sweden – and Karolinska University Hospital, which houses world-leading advanced medical equipment and clinical research laboratories.
