When I first heard about studying medicine in Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Vietnam, I did some research about the place, the environment, the culture, and the people through social media. I had many ups and downs thinking about studying medicine abroad as a foreigner. However, when I first landed in Vietnam, I felt the warm climate and noticed the peaceful roads and fresh air. It gave me a feeling as if I were in my hometown.
The first time I visited the university campus at CTUMP, I was honestly amazed. The campus is very beautiful, peaceful, and calm, with many flowers and places where students can sit and study. One of my favorite places is the CTUMP café. During my first year, I often sat there to study. I really enjoyed the environment studying with a cup of coffee and spending time with my friends.
I also noticed that many Vietnamese students at CTUMP are very friendly. Sometimes they are a little shy to start conversations because of the language barrier, but they are always kind and welcoming. The surroundings of the university are very clean and well organized. The classrooms are modern, with big projection screens and enough seating for all students.
The teachers at CTUMP are soft-spoken, friendly, punctual, and very knowledgeable. As medical students, practical exposure is extremely important for us, and CTUMP provides excellent hands-on experience. The university is connected with many hospitals where students can gain clinical training in different departments. I truly admire the healthcare facilities and feel lucky to experience them. Most of the doctors are kind, friendly, and always ready to help.
One challenge I faced was the language barrier, but many Vietnamese people are willing to help whenever needed. During my free time, I like to read and study in the CTUMP library. The library is neat, clean, and provides many useful books for reference. The campus also has many open spaces and study areas under the trees, which I really love.
Every week, students are assigned cleaning duties around the campus. This helps keep the university clean and beautiful, and students also receive activity points for participating. CTUMP also has many clubs and activities, both on campus and through Facebook pages, where students can share ideas, learn new skills, and make new friends.
The university also has large playgrounds for sports such as volleyball, basketball, tennis, and running. This shows that the university encourages students to stay healthy and active, not only focused on studying.
Whenever I visit my university, I feel peaceful because of the environment and beauty. Even when I feel lonely or bored, CTUMP becomes like therapy for me. I enjoy walking, cycling, running, or simply sitting in the park and reflecting.
CTUMP has truly stolen my heart. Beyond my studies and clinical rotations, it is a place where I find both knowledge and peace. I feel grateful and lucky to be a CTUMPer.
