Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) congratulates Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru, lecturer at the Center for Medical Education and Skills Training, on his successful selection for a full scholarship for the U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program for the 2025-2026 academic year at UMass Chan Medical School, Massachusetts, USA.

The Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program is a prestigious academic program funded by the U.S. Government, aimed at enhancing research and teaching capacity and promoting academic cooperation between ASEAN countries and the United States. The program is highly competitive, bringing together young scientists, lecturers, and experts with leadership potential in their respective fields across Southeast Asia.

UMass Chan Medical School is one of the most prestigious medical training and research centers in the United States, known for its dynamic academic environment, globally influential research programs, and extensive international collaboration network. It also brings together many leading experts in public health, mental health, behavioral sciences, and innovation in healthcare. Participating in the Fulbright program at UMass Chan Medical School not only provides Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru with the opportunity to enhance his research capabilities but also contributes to strengthening academic connections between CTUMP and leading training and research institutions in the United States.
Prior to receiving the Fulbright scholarship, Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru had just graduated with a PhD in Health and Sustainable Development from the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, Thailand, one of the region's leading training institutions in public health and sustainable development.
During his studies and research, Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru developed a research focus on the mental health of adolescents, community health, medical education, and sustainable development. His doctoral dissertation focused on evaluating the effectiveness of a school depression prevention intervention program for high school students in Vietnam, contributing to providing scientific evidence for developing solutions to care for and improve the mental health of adolescents in the current context.
In addition to his research activities, Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru actively participates in international academic exchange and training programs. He was selected to participate in the Mobility Scholarship Program at the National University of Singapore (NUS), the New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program, and the International Internship Program at Taipei Medical University (Taiwan). These multinational academic experiences have contributed to enhancing his research capabilities, expanding his international cooperation network, and promoting academic exchange between Vietnam and partners in the region and around the world.

Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru's research results have been presented at numerous prestigious international scientific conferences such as the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) Congress in Milan, Italy; the Asian Conference on Psychology and the Behavioral Sciences in Tokyo, Japan; and the International Postgraduate Roundtable and Research Forum in Hong Kong. The research focuses on school-related mental health issues, adolescent depression, psychosocial risk factors, and the development of evidence-based intervention programs for Vietnamese adolescents.

As a lecturer at the Center for Medical Education and Training, Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru continuously participates in training activities, scientific research, the development of medical education, and the promotion of international cooperation within the university. He consistently adheres to the view that scientific research should be closely linked to practice, aiming to address priority health issues in the community and contribute to improving the quality of future medical workforce training.
Completing the international doctoral program and being selected to participate in the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program is not only the result of Dr. Tran Le Cong Tru's diligent studies, research, and international integration, but also contributes to affirming the quality of the young faculty members of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy on regional and international academic forums.
