In line with its strategy to expand its network of cooperation with reputable training institutions in the ASEAN region, on July 8, 2026, a delegation from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) paid an official visit to the Bandung Institute of Technology (Institut Teknologi Bandung - ITB) in Bandung, Indonesia. This visit marks a significant milestone in the University's strategy for developing international cooperation in training and scientific research, opening up opportunities for deeper collaboration in training and scientific research in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology, and Biotechnology through the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the School of Health Sciences and Technology, ITB, and the Faculty of Basic Sciences, CTUMP.
ITB is one of the most prestigious and oldest technical universities in Indonesia, established in 1920 in Bandung. It ranks among the top universities in the country (top 3 sustainable universities in Indonesia, top 4 Webometrics Indonesia) and holds high rankings in prestigious regional and global rankings (#287 QS World University Ranking). The institute offers 137 undergraduate and postgraduate programs. With over 1,400 highly qualified lecturers and researchers, ITB is an excellent multidisciplinary research center, particularly strong in technology, engineering, arts, natural sciences, and social sciences.
The delegation of CTUMP and the leaders’ representatives of ITB
The delegation from CTUMP was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Lam, Vice Rector, along with representatives and assistants from various faculties and units of the University. On the Bandung Institute of Technology side, the delegation included Dr. Karina Aprilia Sujatmiko - Director of International Cooperation, Dr. Fauzan Alfi Agirachman - Director of Educational Development, Head of Facilities Department, Dr. Nurrohman Wijaya - Director of Training, Head of Educational Quality Management and Evaluation Department, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zulfan Zazuli - Head of Undergraduate Training Program, School of Pharmacy.
The working program was formal, effective, and focused on two main parts: (1) representatives of the two schools introduced an overview of the formation and development process, strategy and development orientation, training programs, and scientific research activities of the unit. Representatives of CTUMP proposed specific cooperation contents in training; exchange of lecturers and students; scientific research; digital transformation; accreditation of training programs according to AUN-QA standards. Then the two sides held an open discussion on future cooperation directions and possibilities; (2) In addition, the School of Health Sciences and Technology, ITB and the Faculty of Basic Sciences, CTUMP held a signing of the MoA, establishing a basis for implementing faculty-student exchange programs, scientific research and technology projects under the witness of leaders’ representatives of both sides.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Kim Quyen, on behalf of the delegation, introduced CTUMP and the potential areas of cooperation between the two schools in the future.
Through the exchange, the leaders of the two schools recognized many similarities in development strategies, especially the orientation of training high-quality biomedical and pharmaceutical engineering human resources, strengthening scientific research linked to practical needs and promoting international integration. Following this direction, the two sides discussed in detail the priority areas of cooperation, especially student and faculty exchange programs, participation in short-term courses in biomedical engineering and pharmacy, and academic and cultural exchanges. The two universities also agreed to promote the sharing of experiences in quality assurance, educational accreditation, and university rankings.

After the meeting with the leaders of the Bandung Institute of Technology, the delegation continued their work and signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) at the School of Health Sciences and Technology, welcomed by Dr. Indra Wiboro - Rector of the School of Health Sciences and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tjandra Anggraeni - Head of Scientific Research, Dr. Azzania Fibriani - Deputy Head of Student Affairs, and other members. Notably, the meeting also included four Biomedical Engineering students from CTUMP who are participating in a short-term exchange program at the School of Health Sciences and Technology, ITB. After introducing their strengths in training, scientific research, and community service, the two schools discussed in detail the direction of cooperation activities to be implemented after signing the MoA. Activities will focus on student and faculty exchange; developing faculty and student capabilities in teaching and learning; and soft skills.

At the end of the meeting, CTUMP, Bandung Institute of Technology, and the School of Health Sciences and Technology, ITB agreed to promptly promote academic activities within the framework of the cooperation agreement between the School of Health Sciences and Technology, ITB, and the Faculty of Basic Sciences, CTUMP, and to continue discussions towards signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the university level.

The visit and working session of the CTUMP’s delegation at the Bandung Institute of Technology was a great success, opening a new and promising chapter in the international cooperation relationship of CTUMP in Southeast Asia, contributing to improving the quality of training and scientific research of the university in the new phase.
