As part of its strategy to promote the internationalization of education and expand its network of cooperation with reputable training institutions in the ASEAN region, on July 6, 2026, a delegation from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy (CTUMP) paid an official visit to Udayana University (UNUD) in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting took place in an open and friendly atmosphere and marked an important beginning in establishing a cooperative relationship between the two universities, aiming to develop training, scientific research, and academic exchange in the field of health sciences.
Udayana University, established on August 17, 1962, is one of Indonesia's oldest and most prestigious public universities. Located on Bali Island – a renowned tourism, cultural, and educational hub of Southeast Asia – the university offers multidisciplinary training in various fields, with health sciences playing a core role. The Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University currently manages 38 programs, including Bachelor's degrees in Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Dentistry, Public Health, and Psychology, along with numerous postgraduate, specialist, and doctoral programs. With a vision to become an excellent, independent, and internationally competitive training and research institution by 2042, the Faculty of Medicine places particular emphasis on developing tourism health, aligning with Bali's advantage as a leading global tourist destination.

The delegation from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy was led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Lam, Vice Rector, along with representatives and assistants from various faculties and units of the University.
On the Udayana University side, the delegation was welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. I Gede Eka Wiratnaya, Head of the Faculty of Medicine; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Putu Sutirta Yasa, Deputy Head of the Training and Planning Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pande Putu Januraga, Director of the Center for Public Health Innovation (CPHI) of the Faculty of Medicine; Dr. Ida Ayu Ika Wahyuniari, Head of the Quality Management and International Cooperation Department; and other faculty members from the Faculties of Dentistry, Public Health, and Nursing.
During the meeting, representatives from both universities provided an overview of their formation and development, organizational structure, training programs, scientific research activities, development strategies, and internationalization orientations. Representatives from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy shared their development directions for the new phase, aiming to continuously improve the quality of training, promote scientific research, strengthen accreditation and quality assurance in education, accelerate digital transformation, and expand international cooperation to enhance the university's position in regional and global university rankings.

Through the exchange, the leaders of the two universities recognized many similarities in their development strategies, especially in the orientation of training high-quality medical human resources, strengthening scientific research linked to practical needs, and promoting international integration. In that spirit, the two sides discussed in depth priority areas of cooperation, firstly by developing student, faculty, and academic staff exchange programs through clinical observation activities, short courses, academic exchanges, and internships in the fields of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Public Health. The two universities also agreed to promote joint research programs in the fields of public health, nutrition, food safety, non-communicable diseases, and public health issues significant to the Southeast Asian region.
In addition, ensuring the quality of education and developing training programs is also a matter of particular interest to both sides. With a focus on continuously improving the quality of training to international standards, the two universities will share experiences in developing training programs based on the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) model, as well as solutions to enhance the quality of training and the international integration capacity of learners. Both sides also agreed to jointly organize annual international conferences, webinars, and academic forums to share research results, teaching experiences, and best practice models in the field of health sciences.
At the end of the working session, the leaders of CTUMP and Udayana University agreed to quickly proceed with the necessary procedures to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the university level. After the MOU is signed, the faculties, institutes, and centers of the two universities will continue to develop Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) to implement specific cooperation programs in training, scientific research, faculty and student exchange.

On this occasion, Udayana University also respectfully extended an invitation to CTUMP to attend the 2026 International HIV Summit, tentatively scheduled to be held in Bali in October 2026. This will be an opportunity for scientists and lecturers from both universities to further strengthen academic exchanges, expand research cooperation, and connect with international partners.
The visit and working session at Udayana University was a great success, opening up many prospects for cooperation between the two universities in the future. This is not only an important step in the internationalization process of CTUMP but also contributes to strengthening cooperative relations between health science training institutions in the ASEAN region. With the agreed-upon cooperation directions, both sides expect to soon implement many practical activities, contributing to improving the quality of training, scientific research, and community service, aiming for sustainable development and international integration in the field of higher education.
