RADIOGRAPHY, RADIATION THERAPY & NUCLEAR MEDICINE PRACTICE COURSE FOR STUDENTS OF NEWCASTLE UNIVERSITY (AUSTRALIA) AT CAN THO UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE AND PHARMACY (JANUARY 21st – FEBRUARY 1st, 2019)

During 12 days in Can Tho, students from Australia had many experiences not only in studying but also in extracurricular activities on the sidelines of the course. Overcoming language barriers with the help of volunteers from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Newcastle students could easily communicate with Vietnamese patients as well as understand more about the working procedures of the imaging diagnostic departments at different hospitals. Tomislav Sindija, a student from the Radiology Department, said: "I learned a lot from this course. Vietnamese patients are very friendly and cooperative. The technical steps are not too different from what I learned. We were in the best conditions to study. Thanks very much".

 

Besides, the course happened when the vibe of Lunar New Year was just around the corner. In order for Australian students to experience some features of Vietnamese traditional New Year, the Scientific Research and International Cooperation Office organized a small cozy year-end party at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy on January 27^th (means December 23^rd in the lunar calendar). At the party, Newcastle University students had the opportunity to enjoy traditional Vietnamese dishes, take photos with apricot flowers, symbolic flowers for the Southern springtime of Vietnam. In particular, all Australian students received “li xi” which were red envelopes contained lucky money from Assoc.Prof. NGUYEN Trung Kien - Rector of Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy. 

Under the careful planning, the internship ended well with many compliments and thanks from Newcastle University students to administrators, lecturers, and students from Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
